Synopsis
"The Thrill of It All" (1963) is a Hollywood screwball comedy you can watch online on iFILM, directed by Norman Jewison and starring Doris Day alongside James Garner.
Beverly Boyer is a suburban housewife, happy enough — until a dinner-party story about her favourite soap catches the ear of the soap manufacturer himself. He puts her on television. America loves her. Her husband Gerald, an obstetrician, starts quietly losing his mind over the empty house and his wife's overnight fame. Doris Day plays the cheerful chaos engine at the centre with exactly the right amount of obliviousness, and Garner's mounting exasperation is the film's real comic motor. For a 1963 studio comedy, it asks an unexpectedly pointed question: why is a woman's domestic contentment the only ambition anyone thought to encourage? Stream "The Thrill of It All" on iFILM.
