Synopsis
The Fire Within (Le Feu follet, 1963) is available to watch online — a French drama directed by Louis Malle, adapted from Drieu La Rochelle's semi-autobiographical novel. Alain Leroy has just left a Versailles clinic where he was treated for alcoholism. Doctors say he's fine. He disagrees.
Over the course of one day he drifts through Paris, calling on old friends, former lovers, and familiar faces from a wasted decade. Maurice Ronet plays him without a shred of self-pity — a man quietly taking stock, testing whether anyone or anything might tip the scales toward staying. The meetings go nowhere good.
