Synopsis
Schizopolis (1997) is Steven Soderbergh's experimental comedy, and you can watch online on iFILM. He wrote it, shot it, and played two roles himself. The logic is scrambled on purpose; the whole thing runs as a stream of absurd gags.
An office drone drafts speeches for the guru of a Scientology-style outfit, comes apart, starts speaking in nonsense languages, and drifts into an affair with his own wife, who seems not to recognize him. Alongside that runs a dentist doppelgänger, a plot about exterminators, and a character billed only as Attractive Woman Number Two. Soderbergh made this almost in secret, between bigger jobs, with his own money and no script discipline, as a way to wreck his usual filmmaking habits and shake himself loose.
There is no plot so much as a string of sketches about a dying marriage, alienation, and the emptiness of corporate talk; it is funny exactly to the degree you enjoy a film mocking its own form. It rewards fans of early Soderbergh and anyone who likes a director clowning with a straight face. Viewers after a coherent story should skip it. Stream Schizopolis (1997) online on iFILM.
