Synopsis
Mr. Mom (1983) is an American comedy directed by Stan Dragoti — watch online on iFILM. Michael Keaton plays Jack Butler, an automotive engineer who loses his job and ends up as a full-time househusband while his wife builds a career in advertising.
Jack has never done laundry, can't navigate the school drop-off lane without causing a traffic incident, and quickly befriends his toddler's security blanket more than any adult in the neighborhood. His wife Caroline, played by Teri Garr, discovers she's very good at the job she never tried before. The longer Jack stays home, the more both of them have to rethink what they actually thought they knew about each other. Christopher Lloyd and Jeffrey Tambor have supporting roles.
The script came from John Hughes — written before Home Alone — and it carries the same warmth toward suburban family chaos without turning mean-spirited. What lands as a gentle comedy also doubles as a fairly pointed look at reversed domestic roles, which gave it staying power well beyond 1983. Stream Mr. Mom on iFILM.
