Amanda Pharrell (Nicole Chamoun) is a private investigator who served time for murder. Ted Conkaffey (Thomas Jane) is a disgraced ex-cop whose name was ruined by a charge he didn't commit. The missing developer pulls them together, but Amanda is also chasing something personal: a pilot friend who threw himself into a croc-infested river in front of tourists, in a way she refuses to call an accident. The deeper they dig, the more rot they find under the town's friendly surface.

Adapted from Candice Fox's novels, with the pilot directed by Jocelyn Moorhouse, the show lets the swelter do half the storytelling — rusted boats, sweat, the quiet racism of a small place.
