Synopsis
The Connection (La French, 2014) is Cédric Jimenez's crime thriller, available to watch online on iFILM. Marseille, 1975: a stubborn young magistrate named Pierre Michel sets out to dismantle the heroin pipeline that everyone around him has quietly learned to live with.
On one side stands Michel (Jean Dujardin), a former gambler who pours that same nerve into raids, wiretaps and sleepless stakeouts. On the other is Gaëtan Zampa (Gilles Lellouche), the boss who runs the port and has spent years being untouchable. Jimenez cuts between them like a slow duel — the judge who can't afford one wrong move, the kingpin with a family, a code and a growing list of enemies. Benoît Magimel and Céline Sallette round out a sweaty, sun-bleached Marseille of flared jeans and heavy cars.
Jimenez grew up in this city and shot in its real streets, and it bleeds into every frame. Think of it as the French half of the story William Friedkin told in The French Connection: the same heroin war, watched from Marseille instead of New York. Coming straight off The Artist, Dujardin swaps charm for cold fury and carries the picture. Stream The Connection (2014) online on iFILM.
