Synopsis
Purple Violets (2007) is a New York romantic comedy written and directed by Edward Burns — watch it online on iFILM. Patti used to write fiction. A conventional marriage and a real estate career later, the manuscript is in a drawer and has been there for years.
Running into Brian — her first love, now a published crime novelist played by Burns himself — forces the question she's been avoiding. Her best friend Kate (Debra Messing) is doing her own version of the same reckoning, tangled up again with an old flame who wants another shot. Selma Blair plays Patti; Patrick Wilson plays Brian; Dennis Farina and Bill Hader round out a cast that handles Burns' loose, street-level New York dialogue well.
Burns shoots without fuss, and this one has more on its mind than the genre usually does. The question isn't really whether to go back — it's why leaving felt so necessary in the first place. Stream Purple Violets (2007) online on iFILM.
