What follows is the most structurally restless season in the show's run. Morty falls for an environmental superhero whose idea of saving the planet involves a lot of planetary destruction. The entire family accidentally engineers a crisis they then have to fight together. Morty and Summer steal the ship for a night while the adults are occupied. Episode eight slows everything down for a quiet rescue mission inside a friend's dying mind — the season's most understated twenty minutes. Then the two-part finale dismantles the core dynamic: Rick swaps Morty for two crows as a travel companion, and an older Morty tries to rebuild the partnership in a place the show's long-time audience will recognize but find fundamentally different.
