Synopsis
Rick and Morty Season 5 — Adult Swim, 2021, 10 episodes, watch online on iFILM. The opener introduces Mr. Nimbus, Rick's ancient nemesis, and signals that this season is going to be more personal than the last.
Squid assassins come after the Smiths, which is complicated by the fact that Rick seeded the world with decoy families — which ones are they hunting, and where are the real ones? Morty falls for a superhero whose whole thing is saving dying ecosystems, while Rick and Summer run a planet-hopping bender through a string of apocalypses. Midseason Rick and Morty actually split up: Morty finds a new portal partner, Rick makes friends with two crows that turn out to be startlingly intelligent. The final two episodes pull back on Rick's past — something the show has been circling since the pilot — and deliver a reckoning that hits differently than the usual comedic reset.
