Synopsis
Merlin (1998), Season 1 is a two-part fantasy miniseries you can watch online on iFILM — the Arthurian legend retold through the eyes of the wizard himself, with Sam Neill in the title role.
The setting is Dark Ages Britain, a land where magic still lives close to ordinary people. An aging Merlin looks back on his life: how he was born to serve Queen Mab, the goddess of the old ways, and how he refused her and chose humankind instead. Part one builds toward the birth of Arthur; part two pits Merlin against Mab and her allies, the cruel Vortigern and the sorceress Morgan. He dreams of raising a worthy king, building Camelot and holding the realm together — but every victory costs him something, including his love for Nimue.
The cast is unusually rich for a TV movie: Isabella Rossellini, Helena Bonham Carter, Rutger Hauer, Miranda Richardson, John Gielgud. A handsome, family-friendly take on the myth for fans of old-school fantasy. Watch both episodes online on iFILM.
