Synopsis
The New Avengers (1976) is a British spy series you can watch online on iFILM — a sequel to the original 1960s Avengers, developed by Albert Fennell and Brian Clemens. Patrick Macnee reprises John Steed, now backed by two partners: Mike Gambit, a crack marksman and hand-to-hand specialist, and Purdey, a former Royal Ballet trainee who turns out to be the most dangerous person in most rooms.
Twenty-six episodes across two seasons follow the trio through espionage, sabotage and world-domination schemes — the same genre, sharper action. Joanna Lumley as Purdey gave the show a quality the original hadn't always had: someone who could outrun the plot at will. The series was a joint UK, France and Canada production, which pushed location work well outside London.
