Synopsis
The Inheritor (L'Héritier, 1973) is a crime thriller starring Jean-Paul Belmondo that you can watch online on iFILM. Philippe Labro directed it. Bart Cordell, a playboy and intellectual well known in Paris circles, flies home to France after his father dies in a plane crash, ready to take over the vast media and industrial empire the old man built.
At first it reads as an accident. Then someone tries to frame Bart — a woman sets him up on a drug-smuggling charge — and he realizes his father was murdered and that he is next on the list. From there it turns into a double game. He cleans house inside the company while running his own investigation, because what he digs up would ruin powerful people if it ever went public.
This is vintage early-seventies Belmondo: a charming, reckless hero who throws punches and one-liners in equal measure, with politics and big money tangled into the chases. Jean Rochefort and Charles Denner round out the cast.
