Synopsis
Alice in Wonderland (1999) is Nick Willing's family fantasy, ready to watch online on iFILM. Chasing a fretful White Rabbit, young Alice tumbles down a hole into a place where nothing obeys the rules — one bite and she shoots up to the ceiling, one sip and she shrinks to three inches.
Drawn from Lewis Carroll's book, the real draw is the casting. Tina Majorino carries Alice through a parade of famous faces: Ben Kingsley as the Caterpillar, Whoopi Goldberg as the Cheshire Cat, Martin Short as the Mad Hatter, and Miranda Richardson as a Queen of Hearts who'd happily behead the lot of them. Gene Wilder, Peter Ustinov and Christopher Lloyd wander through too.
This is a two-and-a-half-hour TV movie, a US, British and German co-production that leans on elaborate costumes and puppetry rather than slick digital effects.
