The Get Down (2016), Season 1 is the Netflix music drama you can watch online on iFILM — eleven episodes dropped into the South Bronx of 1977, where the buildings burn, the records are cheap, and the kids have nothing but rhythm and nerve.
It centers on Zeke, a teenager with a gift for words. Chasing a girl named Mylene, he stumbles into a dangerous nightclub scene and crosses paths with a local legend, the quick-footed DJ Shaolin Fantastic. From there the Get Down Boys come together, splicing scraps of other people's vinyl into something soon to be called hip-hop. Mylene, meanwhile, is reaching for disco — past her preacher father, past producers, past an uncle wired into city politics. A blackout, a mayoral race, the drug trade next door: all of it presses in.
