Synopsis
Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip (2006) is Aaron Sorkin's backstage drama, and you can watch it online on iFILM. On live television, in front of millions, the host of a late-night sketch show melts down at the camera and rips into everything wrong with safe, gutless TV. He's fired before the credits roll.
To save the sinking franchise, the network brings back two writers it once kicked off the lot — Matt Albie (Matthew Perry) and Danny Tripp (Bradley Whitford). Above them sits the channel's new president, Jordan McDeere (Amanda Peet); below them, a jittery cast and writers' room racing a weekly live deadline. Matt also keeps circling his ex, the show's star Harriet (Sarah Paulson), whose faith and politics drove them apart in the first place.
Sorkin took his trademark walk-and-talk rhythm — fast dialogue, big arguments about ideals versus compromise — out of the halls of power and into a TV studio. His longtime collaborator Thomas Schlamme directed. It lasted a single season, yet carries a loyal reputation as an underrated gem: a good fit for anyone who loved The West Wing and smart, rapid-fire talk about people who take comedy dead seriously.
