Synopsis
Whitechapel (2009) is a British crime drama you can watch online on iFILM. In London's East End, a killer is recreating the murders of Jack the Ripper — same wounds, same dates, same streets, 120 years later.
Detective Inspector Joseph Chandler (Rupert Penry-Jones) catches the case. He is a tidy, ambitious officer in a pressed suit, handed command over a squad of weathered cops who think he is out of his depth. His sergeant, Ray Miles (Phil Davis), barely hides his contempt. Their unlikely help comes from Edward Buchan (Steve Pemberton), a fidgety amateur historian who runs walking tours of Victorian crime scenes. To trap a copycat, Chandler has to start thinking like a murderer who died a century ago.
The ITV series ran for four series, and each new case digs up a grislier echo from the past. What sets it apart is the angle — less gunfire, more obsession, the idea that an old nightmare can come back following someone else's script. Best suited to viewers who like cold, methodical British procedurals with a creeping dread under the surface. Stream Whitechapel (2009) online on iFILM.
