Synopsis
The Lovers (2015) is a time-travel romance epic you can watch online on iFILM, directed by Roland Joffé, who made The Mission and The Killing Fields. Jay Fennel is a marine archaeologist diving a sunken 18th-century vessel when a near-fatal accident puts him in a coma.
Inside the coma he is someone else entirely. British officer James Stuart, stationed in colonial India in 1778 during the first Anglo-Maratha War, consumed by love for Tulaja — an Indian warrior who has no place in the world he came from. Josh Hartnett plays both men; Alice Englert and Bipasha Basu play the women anchoring each era. Joffé builds the story across two continents and three centuries of separation, and the question underneath it all is whether love that exists only between lives counts as love at all.
