Synopsis
There Be Dragons (2011) is Roland Joffé's historical drama, free to watch online on iFILM. A journalist named Robert sets out to chronicle Josemaría Escrivá, the priest who founded Opus Dei — and stumbles onto his own estranged father buried inside that story.
Two boys grow up side by side in early-century Spain. One walks toward the priesthood; the other walks into a war. When the 1936 civil conflict splits the country, Manolo trades loyalty for spying and revenge while Josemaría keeps faith, and their broken friendship festers into a secret the son only uncovers decades later. Charlie Cox plays the future saint, Wes Bentley the ruined friend, with Olga Kurylenko, Dougray Scott and Charles Dance rounding out the cast.
Joffé, who once made The Mission and The Killing Fields, returns to belief set against mass slaughter, and the film rings truest when it drops the halo and sits with one ordinary man's envy. "Even saints have a past," promises the tagline, and that tension is what holds the whole thing together. Stream There Be Dragons (2011) online on iFILM.
