Shiri

Shiri (쉬리, 1999) is a South Korean action thriller directed by Kang Je-gyu — watch it online on iFILM. On release it outran Titanic at the Korean box office, announcing that local blockbusters could go head-to-head with Hollywood imports.

A liquid explosive called CTX has been stolen by North Korea's elite 8th Special Forces unit, operating deep inside the South. Two OP agents, Ryu and Lee, race to recover it before a devastating attack can be triggered. The trail leads to a lethal female sniper who has already vanished without a trace after each hit. Han Suk-kyu and Choi Min-sik carry the investigation; Song Kang-ho rounds out a cast that went on to define Korean cinema for the next two decades.
