Synopsis
Assassination (암살, 2015) is a Korean action thriller directed by Choi Dong-hoon — watch it online on iFILM. Korea, 1933: a resistance operative assembles a three-person squad — a female sharpshooter, a demolitions expert, and a hired gun — and sends them into Japanese-occupied Gyeongseong to take out a colonial governor and a Korean collaborator.
What the team doesn't know is that one of their own has already reported the mission to the Japanese, and a pair of contract killers is closing in before the target is even in sight. Jun Ji-hyun plays the sniper Ahn Ok-yun with a stillness that makes every trigger pull feel inevitable. Ha Jung-woo and Lee Jung-jae round out an ensemble where no character is quite who they claim to be, and the double-crosses stack up in ways the plot earns rather than just announces.
Over 12.5 million Koreans bought tickets — the biggest run any Korean period action film had seen at that point. The film works less as a wartime tribute than as a tightly wound genre puzzle, where betrayal turns out to be the real enemy. Stream Assassination (2015) online on iFILM.
