Twilight

Twilight (1998) is a slow-burn LA noir you can watch online on iFILM, directed by Robert Benton and built around one of Paul Newman's most lived-in performances. Newman plays Harry Ross — retired cop, former private eye, now a houseguest of aging Hollywood couple the Aimeses, played by Gene Hackman and Susan Sarandon.

A routine delivery job unspools into a tangle of blackmail and bodies, all of it connected to a disappearance that happened twenty years ago and was never properly solved. Harry has feelings for Catherine Ames that cloud every choice he makes. That's the trap the film sets and never lets him out of.

Benton, who won Oscars for Kramer vs. Kramer, frames this as something closer to an elegy than a thriller — a story about men who've outlived their usefulness and the secrets that wait patiently to catch up.
