Synopsis
Love Lies Bleeding (2024) is Rose Glass's crime thriller from A24, and you can watch it online on iFILM. Lou (Kristen Stewart), the withdrawn manager of a grubby small-town gym, falls hard for Jackie (Katy O'Brian), a bodybuilder passing through on her way to Las Vegas. The story rolls across the dusty American backroads of the late 1980s. Jackie is juicing on steroids for a contest while Lou tries to keep her clear of her own family, run by a shady gun-dealing father (Ed Harris). One burst of violence, and the two women are buried in blood, blackmail and a body that won't stay hidden. The tighter they cling to each other, the deeper they sink. Glass laces the noir with frankly deranged, almost hallucinatory flourishes.
This is hard, sweaty, sometimes shocking cinema: iron, muscle, gore and a love that tips into obsession. Stewart and O'Brian carry the whole thing, and after Saint Maud, Glass cements her name as a filmmaker with no brakes. It's for viewers who want their crime stories feral rather than polished.
