Dororo

Dororo (2007) is a Japanese fantasy-action film you can watch online on iFILM, adapted from Osamu Tezuka's cult manga. To buy himself power over the land, a samurai pledges 48 pieces of his unborn son's body to 48 demons.

A healer rescues the mutilated baby and rebuilds him with prosthetics and hidden blades. Grown up, Hyakkimaru (Satoshi Tsumabuki) roams a ravaged country cutting down the demons one by one — each kill returns a stolen ear, eye or limb to his patchwork body. Along the way he picks up Dororo (Ko Shibasaki), a sharp-tongued thief carrying her own grudge against the world.

Director Akihiko Shiota sets his grim fairy tale in no fixed place or time — an invented land of mud, swords and gleefully rubbery practical monsters, very much in the vein of 2000s Japanese fantasy.
