Synopsis
Samsara (2002) is Pan Nalin's meditative drama, available to watch online on iFILM. A young lama named Tashi is carried back to his Ladakh monastery after three years sealed in a mountain cave, and honored with a high title. Yet scriptural holiness can't hold him. When he meets a farmer's daughter named Pema, he wants something the texts never offered: a woman.
Tashi sheds his robes and walks into the ordinary world to till fields, marry, raise a son and trade grain. The film takes its time showing how spiritual discipline collides with plain human hunger for closeness, for the body, for control. Shawn Ku plays the monk split down the middle, while Christy Chung gives Pema a final speech that flips the whole story on its head.
Shot inside real Himalayan monasteries against actual peaks and ancient murals, with no studio gloss, it poses one quietly uncomfortable question: is it harder to satisfy a thousand desires, or to conquer just one? A slow, visually rich film for viewers willing to sit and think. Stream Samsara (2002) online on iFILM.
