Synopsis

Don't Move (Non ti muovere, 2004) is an Italian-Spanish drama you can watch online on iFILM, directed by and starring Sergio Castellitto, adapted from Margaret Mazzantini's novel. Surgeon Timoteo stands outside an operating room waiting to hear if his daughter will survive. What fills the hours is memory — a long, damaging memory.

Years before, this respectable married man crossed into a different life through a chance encounter with Italia, a destitute immigrant woman on the margins of the city. Penélope Cruz plays her with an intensity that makes the character wholly real: not a symbol, not a fantasy, just a specific woman in a hard situation. Claudia Gerini plays the wife who deserved better than to be a backdrop to her husband's guilt. Castellitto refuses to romanticize any of it — the film looks at desire and betrayal without flinching.

The picture took the Silver Lion at Venice in 2004. It's not comfortable viewing, but it's the kind of film that stays with you because it refuses easy exits for anyone involved. Stream Don't Move (2004) online on iFILM.
