The Healer

The Healer (2017) is a warm drama with a comic streak that you can watch online on iFILM. Alec Bailey lives for the next bet and the next good time, right up until debt and fate strand him in a quiet Canadian town.

Alec (Oliver Jackson-Cohen) is a charming slacker who runs from anything that hurts. In his new home he learns an awkward truth: he's the last of a bloodline of healers, and the gift arrives bundled with a responsibility he never asked for. What turns him around is Abigail, a teenage girl living with cancer. She teaches him to take a hit far better than any of his old gambles did. Jonathan Pryce and Jorge Garcia round out the cast.

Director Paco Arango made the film to support children's cancer centers, and you can feel it in the tone, which leans on hope and the idea that a man can finally grow up rather than on melodrama. A simple, sincere pick for a family movie night. Stream The Healer (2017) online on iFILM.
