Synopsis
The Trip to Spain (2017) is Michael Winterbottom's comedy, and it pairs well with dinner when you watch it online on iFILM. It's the third road trip for Steve Coogan and Rob Brydon, this time down the coast of Spain.
The two play slightly heightened versions of themselves, driving from restaurant to restaurant, ordering tasting menus and needling each other almost non-stop. Who does the better Michael Caine, who does the better Mick Jagger, whose career is sliding faster. Under the banter sits the real subject: two men pushing fifty who keep doing the math on how many good years are left.
Most of the dialogue is improvised, so a lunch on screen really does play like eavesdropping on two old friends. It suits anyone who likes quiet, plotless films, talky comedy and Andalusian scenery instead of car chases. Stream The Trip to Spain (2017) online on iFILM.
