After a fire kills their parents, Violet, Klaus and infant Sunny are passed from guardian to guardian — and Olaf follows every time, wearing a new costume and a new scheme. The children figure out every plot. The adults believe nothing they say. Narrator Patrick Warburton steps into frame to warn viewers the story will not end cheerfully, which somehow makes each episode harder to stop watching.
