Synopsis
Halston (2021) is a Netflix limited series you can watch online on iFILM. It traces the rise and unraveling of American couturier Roy Halston, played by Ewan McGregor across five episodes.
A hat maker from Indiana, Halston dresses half of Manhattan by the 1970s and defines the look of the disco age. Studio 54, cocaine, all-night parties and a close friendship with Liza Minnelli (Krysta Rodriguez) run right alongside mounting debt. Once he signs his own name over to a corporation, he loses his grip on the brand and on himself.
Produced by Ryan Murphy and directed by Daniel Minahan, the show earned McGregor the Emmy for lead actor in a limited series. The seventies wardrobe, interiors and soundtrack are rendered with obvious affection. One for viewers who like fashion biopics about talent burning itself out.
