About
Synopsis
Black Nativity (2013) is available to watch online on iFILM — a Christmas musical drama directed by Kasi Lemmons, drawn from Langston Hughes' 1961 stage poem of the same name.
Langston, a street-smart Baltimore teen, gets sent to New York City for the holidays to stay with grandparents he has never really known — a minister and his wife played by Forest Whitaker and Angela Bassett. Jennifer Hudson plays his mother back home; Tyrese Gibson, Mary J. Blige, and Nas round out the cast. The film moves between family drama and gospel performance, wrapping its reconciliation story in music that earns the emotional beats rather than just demanding them.
