Synopsis
The Dance of Reality (La danza de la realidad, 2013) — watch online on iFILM this surrealist drama from Chilean auteur Alejandro Jodorowsky, his first film in twenty-three years. Shot in Tocopilla, the coastal desert town where Jodorowsky spent his childhood, it reconstructs memory the way only he can: as a fever dream you can't entirely dismiss.
His son Brontis Jodorowsky plays the young Alejandro, while the director himself appears on screen as an older witness to his own past. His mother sings every line — soprano Pamela Flores delivers all her dialogue as operatic melody. His father is a rigid Stalinist whose political obsessions shade into the absurd. The older Jodorowsky walks through his own childhood scenes, sometimes comforting the boy, sometimes simply watching — the gap between memory and myth is the point.
Those who came to Jodorowsky through El Topo or The Holy Mountain will find something rawer and more personal here: a filmmaker using his own wounds as the material, applying the principles of psychomagic he spent decades developing. Stream The Dance of Reality (2013) online on iFILM.
