Synopsis
Eve's Bayou (1997) is Kasi Lemmons' haunting Southern drama, ready to watch online on iFILM. Louisiana, 1962, deep in humid Creole country. Ten-year-old Eve Batiste stumbles onto her father with another woman — and that single stolen glimpse begins to pull her family apart.
Dr. Louis Batiste (Samuel L. Jackson) is charming, beloved by the whole parish, and chronically unfaithful to his beautiful wife Roz. His daughters grow up surrounded by secrets, folk magic and half-spoken truths; Aunt Mozelle can read other people's pasts but never her own. Unable to forgive what she saw, Eve sets something in motion she's far too young to control. Memory keeps shifting here — everyone recalls that same evening a little differently.
Lemmons' directorial debut became the year's highest-grossing independent film, and Roger Ebert called it the best movie of 1997. A young Jurnee Smollett anchors a story where adults betray and a child pays the price. It's a sultry, dreamlike meditation on memory and guilt. Stream Eve's Bayou (1997) online on iFILM.
