Synopsis
Skirt Day (La Journée de la jupe, 2008) is a French-Belgian drama directed by Jean-Paul Lilienfeld — watch it online on iFILM. Isabelle Adjani plays a French literature teacher at a suburban school where the classroom has long since stopped feeling safe.
During a scuffle she finds a loaded gun in a student's bag. A single shot goes off. Suddenly the teacher is the one holding hostages — a class of frightened, furious teenagers, a police negotiation unit outside the door, and Molière still on the blackboard. The film unfolds almost entirely inside one room, and that compression is the point: 88 minutes with nowhere to run.
Adjani took the César Award for Best Actress for this performance. The film earns the comparison to Dog Day Afternoon without imitating it — what starts as a standoff slowly becomes the most honest conversation these teenagers and their teacher have ever had. Stream Skirt Day (2008) on iFILM.
