Synopsis
Terrorizers (恐怖份子, 1986) is Edward Yang's cold-eyed crime drama, and you can watch online on iFILM. Yang frames mid-80s Taipei as a city of strangers, telling three stories that look unrelated until they slowly tighten into a single knot.
A young photographer shoots a street gunfight from his balcony and becomes fixated on a mixed-race girl who passes the time pulling anonymous phone pranks. One of those calls lands in the home of a novelist whose marriage to an ambitious doctor survives on routine rather than feeling. From there the line between her fiction and the lives around her dissolves, and every character nudges events toward an ending none of them chose.
Yang builds the city as a glass-and-concrete trap where a single random contact can wreck a life. The film took the Golden Horse for Best Feature and stands among the high points of the Taiwanese New Wave. Its finale deliberately splits in two — not a gimmick, but the whole point.
