Synopsis
Deep Web (2015) is a documentary you can watch online on iFILM about the arrest that defined the first chapter of online crime. Directed by Alex Winter and narrated by Keanu Reeves, the film centres on Ross Ulbricht — the 30-year-old Texan charged with building and running Silk Road, the anonymous Bitcoin-only marketplace that operated inside the encrypted layers of the internet.
The case had everything: a pseudonym ("Dread Pirate Roberts"), a years-long FBI hunt, and a family that had no idea. Winter secured exclusive access to Ulbricht's mother and brother, which gives the film something most crime docs skip — a human cost that sits apart from the legal spectacle. Cody Wilson, Andy Greenberg and key figures from the cypherpunk and Bitcoin worlds also appear.
