Electric Boogaloo: The Wild, Untold Story of Cannon Films
A one-of-a-kind story about two-of-a-kind men who (for better or worse) changed film forever
Synopsis
Electric Boogaloo: The Wild, Untold Story of Cannon Films (2014) is an Australian documentary you can watch online on iFILM. Director Mark Hartley rounded up an extraordinary group of talking heads: Dolph Lundgren, Molly Ringwald, Bo Derek, Tobe Hooper — alumni who have plenty to say about what it was like inside Cannon.
Israeli cousins Menahem Golan and Yoram Globus bought a bankrupt little studio in 1979 for almost nothing. Over the next decade they pumped out action sequels, ninja pictures, and low-budget spectacles at a pace the major studios found baffling. Cobra, Delta Force, the Missing in Action trilogy, the Masters of the Universe disaster: all Cannon. Golan wanted superhero movies and art cinema simultaneously. He rarely got either right.
Hartley doesn't frame the cousins as crooks — more as true believers who never learned to stop. Stream Electric Boogaloo online on iFILM.
