Havoc

Allison and Emily are teenagers from a comfortable Los Angeles suburb who have constructed a fantasy of street life around the neighborhood kids who hang out nearby. One night they take it further, heading into East LA to find the real thing. Freddy Rodriguez plays the gang leader who lets them in — and then holds the door. The film follows what happens when a performance of danger meets actual danger, and the girls' suburban logic offers no protection.

Kopple came to this as a two-time Oscar-winning documentary filmmaker, and that background shows: the film doesn't glamorize the violence or the lifestyle, it just watches.
