Insomnia

Insomnia (1997) is a Norwegian crime thriller directed by Erik Skjoldbjærg — watch it online on iFILM. Two Swedish detectives fly north to a small Norwegian town to help solve a young woman's murder. They set an ambush for the suspect in thick Arctic fog. A shot rings out, and veteran detective Jonas Engström realizes he has just killed his own partner.

The killer saw it happen. Now Jonas has to close the case, cover his tracks, and hold himself together under a midnight sun that refuses to set. Stellan Skarsgård carries the film on sheer physical presence: exhaustion, guilt, and calculation cycling through a face that never quite lets the audience off the hook. Sverre Anker Ousdal and Bjørn Floberg round out the key roles.
