Synopsis
Pop Redemption (2013) is a French road comedy you can watch online on iFILM. Four aging black metal musicians, a band on the verge of breaking up, land an invitation to play one last gig at a big festival.
Then everything goes sideways. On the drive to the show, a freak accident leaves a man dead, and the metalheads, convinced prison is waiting, decide to run. Their cover plan is absurd: ditch the spikes and corpse paint, dress up as peace-loving hippies, and sing about love instead of darkness. None of them can pull it off, which is exactly the joke. Julien Doré, Yacine Belhousse, Grégory Gadebouis and Jonathan Cohen play the unlikely fugitives.
Director Martin Le Gall mines the gap between the band's grim self-image and the gentle act they're forced to fake. It's a small, good-natured comedy about friendship, music and the strain of pretending to be someone you're not. Stream Pop Redemption (2013) online on iFILM.
