Synopsis
Godzilla: Final Wars (ゴジラ ファイナルウォーズ, 2004) is a Toho action spectacle directed by Ryuhei Kitamura — stream it online on iFILM. Made to mark the franchise's 50th anniversary, the film throws nearly every monster in Toho's roster at the screen simultaneously: Rodan over Sydney, Zilla in New York, Mothra in Paris, and a dozen more tearing through cities worldwide.
With Godzilla sealed under Antarctic ice, humanity grudgingly accepts help from a visiting alien race called the Xiliens — until it becomes clear the Xiliens are directing the monsters themselves. The only answer is to thaw out the one thing that has always been worse than the problem. Kitamura shoots it like a 2000s Tokyo action film dropped into a kaiju framework: fast cuts, martial arts sequences between monster battles, non-stop location changes. It's deliberately overwhelming, and that's exactly the point — Toho wanted to send the Showa and Millennium eras off with maximum noise.
Watch Godzilla: Final Wars (2004) on iFILM — the film where the franchise stopped being subtle and committed fully to the spectacle it always pretended to be.
