Thirty-Nine (Season 1)

Thirty-Nine (서른, 아홉, 2022) is a Korean drama series directed by Kim Sang-ho that you can watch online on iFILM. Three women stand at the same milestone — thirty-nine — but arrive there with very different lives. None of it went quite according to plan.

Son Ye-jin plays Cha, a dermatologist from a comfortable background who looks settled from the outside. Jeon Mi-do is Jeong, a former actress-turned-teacher who traded ambition for stability and kept her sharp tongue as compensation. Kim Ji-hyun plays Jang, soft-spoken and still searching for a relationship that sticks. The series starts as a warm, unhurried look at adult friendship — then one of them receives a diagnosis that reframes everything that came before it.

Director Kim Sang-ho resists the pull toward melodramatic crescendos. The grief here is ordinary-sized, which makes it land harder.
