Synopsis
Separate Tables (1958) is a drama you can watch online on iFILM. At a quiet seaside hotel on the English coast, a handful of residents share one thing above all else — their loneliness.
Miss Cooper (Wendy Hiller) keeps the place running, but every polite dinner hides a fracture: a retired major guarding a shameful secret (David Niven), and shy Sibyl, crushed under her domineering mother (Deborah Kerr). The calm routine shatters when the glamorous, unhappy Ann Shankland (Rita Hayworth) arrives to confront her ex-husband. Burt Lancaster sits at the next table.
Director Delbert Mann adapts Terence Rattigan's stage play, and this chamber piece set over two evenings took home Oscars for David Niven (Best Actor) and Wendy Hiller (Best Supporting Actress). A hushed, very English drama about shame, pride and small moments of unexpected kindness. Stream Separate Tables (1958) online on iFILM.
