Synopsis
All Quiet on the Western Front (1979) is a British-American TV film you can watch online on iFILM, directed by Delbert Mann from Erich Maria Remarque's landmark anti-war novel. Richard Thomas leads the cast, with Ernest Borgnine, Donald Pleasence, and Ian Holm in support.
Paul Bäumer and his classmates enlist straight out of school, fired up by a teacher's speech about glory and sacrifice. The Western Front strips every word of it away. Friends disappear one by one into the mud, while newspapers back home report no news worth printing. The gap between the official silence and the trench-level reality is where the film makes its case.
Filmed with deliberate restraint — no swelling score, no heroic close-ups — this adaptation focuses on exhaustion rather than action. It's a precise, quietly devastating portrait of a generation consumed by a war that never bothered to explain itself. Watch All Quiet on the Western Front (1979) online on iFILM.
