Synopsis
The Serpent (2021) is a British crime drama series you can watch online on iFILM, based on the true story of Charles Sobhraj — played by Tahar Rahim — a French con man and killer who preyed on young Western backpackers across India, Thailand and Nepal during 1975 and 1976. Around twenty travellers died before Interpol placed him at the top of its wanted list across three continents.
The series splits its focus between Sobhraj and the people trying to stop him: a Dutch diplomat posted in Bangkok who notices a pattern the official investigation keeps ignoring, and Marie-Andrée Leclerc — Jenna Coleman — the woman at Sobhraj's side who had every reason to walk away. Directors Tom Shankland and Hans Herbots fracture the timeline deliberately, cutting between years so that each episode tightens the net a little further without ever releasing the tension.
