Synopsis
Flickering Lights (Blinkende lygter, 2000) — watch online this Danish crime comedy directed by Anders Thomas Jensen, starring Søren Pilmark, Mads Mikkelsen, and Nikolaj Lie Kaas. Four small-time Copenhagen crooks lift four million kroner earmarked for their boss and head south toward Barcelona. The car dies on a forest road. Days stretch into weeks. The boss's men are looking. But something unexpected happens in the meantime: the four start fixing the place up. One obsesses over the kitchen, another tends a garden, a third rediscovers calm for the first time in his adult life. The film lets these men breathe — and that's where the comedy and the feeling both come from.
Jensen wrote this before he became the screenwriter behind several Susanne Bier films and the original Girl with the Dragon Tattoo script — and the signature is already there: brutally funny, quietly warm, characters who make you laugh and then sneak up on you emotionally.
