Synopsis
In China They Eat Dogs (I Kina spiser de hunde, 1999) is a Danish crime-comedy you can watch online on iFILM. Directed by Lasse Spang Olsen, the film turned out to be one of the sharper genre surprises to come out of late-nineties Scandinavian cinema — funny, rough around the edges, and genuinely hard to predict.
Arvid is a bank clerk. Nobody who matters notices him, and he prefers it that way. Then he accidentally stops a robbery and wakes up a local celebrity. Fine. Except he also learns why the robber needed the money: to pay for a procedure that could let him have a child. That detail eats at Arvid until he decides to track down the cash himself. His brother Harald knows how to get things done, but Harald's methods tend to leave a trail. Kim Bodnia and Nikolaj Lie Kaas play off each other without a wasted beat, and the film keeps piling complications faster than anyone can manage them.
