The Sniper

Arthur Franz plays the killer without genre theatrics. No slasher posturing — just a man coming apart who can't find any other way to ask for help. Adolphe Menjou plays the detective working the case. Screenwriters Edna and Edward Anhalt picked up an Oscar nomination for Best Story here, which was unusual recognition for a B-noir: the industry noticed it was doing something serious.
