Synopsis
Kansas City Confidential (1952) is a hard-boiled film noir from Phil Karlson, and you can watch it online on iFILM. Ex-con Joe Rolfe is framed when his flower delivery van turns up at a brazen armored-car heist — and he's the one hauled in.
With no money and no real evidence on him, Joe walks free, but the stain of being a suspect won't wash off. So he goes hunting for the actual crew himself. The trail leads to a Mexican resort where four accomplices gather. The catch: they pulled the job in masks and have never seen each other's faces, each waiting on a cut from a man none of them can identify. Joe simply takes one of their places.
The mastermind keeps everyone on a tight leash, future Western heavies Lee Van Cleef and Jack Elam lurk in the ranks, and Coleen Gray supplies the story's one ray of warmth. That masked-strangers setup would echo four decades later in Tarantino's Reservoir Dogs. A lean, tightly wound noir for viewers who prize a good double-cross over gunfire.
