Synopsis
Six Degrees of Celebration 2 (Ёлки 2, 2011) is a Russian New Year's comedy you can watch online on iFILM. Four directors — Aleksandr Baranov, Aleksandr Kott, Dmitriy Kiselyov and Levan Gabriadze — weave roughly a dozen storylines into one holiday tapestry, with Sergey Svetlakov and Ivan Urgant once again tying the threads together.
On December 31st, everything falls apart at once. One man scrambles to cover the rent before midnight; another scales the city's giant New Year tree in a dragon costume to win back his fiancée. Somewhere else a character wakes up with amnesia, a passenger races to stop a plane from going down, and an elderly couple realizes, forty years too late, that they were each other's first love. The film leans on its "six degrees" premise: total strangers turn out to be linked far more tightly than they imagine.
The ensemble is stacked — Vera Brezhneva, Sergey Bezrukov, Vladimir Menshov, Gosha Kutsenko, Aleksey Petrenko all turn up. This is warm, undemanding feel-good cinema, tailor-made for the chiming of the New Year's clock. A perfect pick for a family movie night on the 31st.
