Synopsis
Hail the Judge (1994) is a Hong Kong comedy from Wong Jing, and you can watch it online on iFILM. Stephen Chow stars as a hereditary magistrate who takes bribes without blinking — until one case gets under his skin.
Bao holds the lowest ninth-rank judgeship and feels no shame about it; money settles every verdict. Then a widow framed for murdering her husband lands on his docket, and his crooked instincts start to crack. Doing the right thing turns him into a target, so Bao has to claw his way up to first-rank judge before he can come back and even the score. From there it is pure Chow: rapid-fire wordplay, ridiculous disguises and a takedown of a court rotten from top to bottom.
This is vintage mo lei tau — the Cantonese nonsense humor built on puns and sudden swerves — with Chow's regular foil Ng Man-tat and Sharla Cheung beside him. The fun is watching slapstick at full speed resolve into a surprisingly satisfying story about justice. Stream Hail the Judge (1994) online on iFILM.
