Synopsis
God of Gamblers (賭神, 1989) is a Hong Kong action-comedy-drama you can watch online on iFILM, directed by Wong Jing with Chow Yun-Fat at the peak of his star power. Ko Chun is the finest gambler alive — he can read a pair of dice by sound alone while they're still rolling. The criminal world fears him. Then a carefully laid trap strips away everything that makes him dangerous: a head injury leaves him with no memory and the emotional register of a small child.
Street hustler Little Knife, played by Andy Lau, finds Ko Chun wandering dazed and spots an opportunity. The comedy that follows runs on the gap between the legendary gambler everyone is terrified of and the man who cries for chocolate and hides behind strangers. Wong Jing cuts between card-table showdowns staged like gunfights and slapstick at the same unbroken tempo — somehow it holds.
